Project Approval
George Mason University, in order to comply with government regulations regarding hazards in research and instructional laboratories and to ensure a safe and healthy work place, has established safety review committees charged with reviewing and evaluating research and instructional projects. The Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) reviews projects involving infectious materials, biologically-derived toxins, and recombinant DNA. The Radiation Safety Committee (RSC) reviews projects involving all sources of ionizing radiation including radioactive materials and instruments that produce radiation.
The Project Review Form is a tool to facilitate review of laboratory projects to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. All Project Leaders and Course Coordinators are required to complete a Project Review Form for each research project or instructional course.
